As a pediatric occupational therapist, I have been been closely involved in the increased research and awareness surrounding Sensory Processing Disorder – SPD (formerly described as Sensory Integration Disorder – SID). While, researchers continue to create studies that give validity to the disorder, it is generally occupational therapists that are sought out to provide support to a child who is struggling with processing delays.

I have heard countless stories from frustrated parents who are trying to describe their child’s challenging behavior.  At times, these children have been mislabeled as having autism or ADHD. These families also struggling with finding ways to help their child feel and play like other children their age.

My hope is that by providing concise information with the most popular and effective treatment strategies, parents will finally have a place to look to for answers.
